Time & Location

22 Jul 2026, 14:00 – 15:00

Minerva Arts Centre, owned by The Quilt, 2 High St, Llanidloes SY18 6BY, UK

About the event

Katherine Gough is the granddaughter of Sarah Marion Davies (Marion) who was one of the Abertridwr Quilters trained by the Rural Industries Bureau between 1928 and 1939. They produced high quality Welsh quilts, quilted garments and accessories for London and international markets.

Join Katherine Gough as she shares the importance of the Rural Industries Bureau for quilters, families and South Wales. Katherine's personal connection to the story through her Grandmother, brings the topic to life as we lean into the history and quilt stories.

Along with the stories, Katherine Gough will be displaying a collection of Marion’s quilting history including frames, designs, samples, records of classes taught and a traditionally Welsh quilted, lambswool lined dressing gown.

This is an excellent opportunity to see an example of the Rural Industries Bureau quilting.

Katherines research and the achievements of the Abertridwr quilters was published in Quilt Studies 27 by the British Quilt…
