British Quilt Study Group visit Minerva

23 October 2011

October 21 - 23 2011 saw the British Quilt Study Group's annual seminar located in Mid Wales for the first time. The group of over forty enthusiastic quilt historians called at Minerva to view some of the Association's collection on Friday.

Trustee Doreen Gough gives the visitors some background history about the Association and its quilt collection.

The visitors take their time studying the quilts up close. This is 2005-1-A a pale brown wholecloth, more information here.

The rest of the weekend's activities take place at Gregynog Hall near Newtown. There is an excellent selection of presentations, including one about a Red Cross quilt originally from Saskatchewan, Canada, held in the Imperial War Museum; the industrial production of "Comfy" quilts by the British Quilt Company in the 19th century; and a talk by Jen Jones of the Welsh Quilt Centre in Lampeter.

Next year's BQSG seminar will probably be held in Carlisle in late October 2012. Find out more about the group's activities here.
