Quilts from The Welsh Heritage Collection
Quilts are fascinating things! They can tell you a lot about social history through the fabrics used and by the patterns and techniques employed. The making of a quilt was something that grew out of the necessity to keep warm – we all know Welsh winters can be harsh! Once made, quilts were often passed down through the family and kept as mementoes of times gone by. The quilts in our collection are many and varied, made from all sorts of fabrics and thread, in many cases using older quilts or saved fabric or clothing to make the quilt blocks. The women who made them were true recyclers!
