World Textile Day 2018
17 March 2018
"World Textile Day is my favourite day of the year!"
Your chance to see, handle, and buy textile treasures you won't find anywhere else.
Talks and exhibition of stitched, printed, embroidered and woven textiles, costumes and artefacts from around the world. Six specialist world textile traders. From applique to adire; from batik to brocade and block prints to blue prints; from kimono to kilims and kantha to kuba; from sashiko to shibori and silk to shyrdaks; from weaving to wax print... you'll find all this and more at World Textile Day.
The theme this year is: Working Together.
Fair trade market from makers, workshops and villages around the world. Meet world textiles experts - a direct link between you and artisan textile makers worldwide. They travel the globe researching, documenting and buying high quality textiles, costume and artefacts: supporting ancient traditions and creative innovation. Across Asia, Africa, South America and Europe these textile experts and fair trade businesses make a difference to the lives of the suppliers and their families.
Talks are available for £3 each or £5 for both:
11am - Presentation by Susan Briscoe: Hand to Hand - Japanese Sashiko.
2pm - A Favourite Textile: our experts discuss one of their most treasured textiles. Plus a short talk.
You can find out more on the World Textile Day website here.
We hope you can join us at the Minerva Arts Centre for a great day!
