Hilary Beattie Spring School

12 May 2016 - 14 May 2016

The Quilt Association is delighted to be hosting a three day Spring School tutored by Hilary Beattie.

Find Sanctuary

What represents Sanctuary for you? When you need peace, reassurance, validation, safety or time out, where do you go? Or what do you do? Or who do you see?

In this workshop you will be making ‘pages’, which record and celebrate your personal notion of sanctuary. Using your own selection of printed and painted materials (to be made on day one), photos, altered material, ephemera and found objects, we will assem-ble mixed media collage pages, which we will then enhance with stitch.

These can then be assembled as a bound book, a zigzag book or a hanging – a place in which you can lose yourself whenever you need to re-connect with your own sanctuary.

A three day Spring School with Hilary Beattie making precious personal pages in which to take refuge and find your own place of sanctuary.

Day One

Using photographs and other source materials for inspiration, we will make soft foam and lino cut stamps together with rubbing plates from selected imagery or ideas. We will use these, plus stencils and monoprints to prepare personal fabrics and papers for use in our pages

Day Two

We will start assembling pages using materials from day one, photographs, ephemera and other collected objects and materials. Guidance will be given as required on ideas for laying out and designing pages

Day Three

We will continue assembling and working back into pages and then add stitch to enhance them. Ideas and instructions for assembling the pages will also be covered

This Spring School aims to be a little place of sanctuary in its own right … so all the above is for guidance only. You will be free to work at your own pace and follow your own working pattern to suit you.
