The Great Welsh Quilt Show returns for Summer 2015

12 July 2015

The old and the new. Quilts from the Quilt Association collection feature alongside contemporary work from a number of innovative textile artists.

Quilt enthusiasts from far and near gathered to enjoy the exhibits and share stories.

The famous patchwork floor of the former garage creates the perfect backdrop for 3D works in Gallery 1.

Hilary Beattie, exhibiting in Gallery 2, with a seaside theme. She is running a 3 day summer school from 22 - 24 July at the Minerva Arts Centre.

Josie Russell with a selection of new works, several featuring local Montgomeryshire landmarks, including the Clywedog Dam, and St Idloes Church in Llanidloes.

The group Tangent Textiles from Birmingham with exhibits on the theme of 'Scape'.

Margaret Fairhead of Tangent Textiles specialises in machine embroidery creating textural effects with multiple threads, and takes her influence from nature and the built environment.

A selection of antique quilts from our own collection focuses on cot quilts. This is an unusual woollen cot quilt made locally in Rhayader.

These quilts were made in South-West Wales in the 19th century. You can find more about the strippy quilt in our collection here.

In Gallery 2 our visitors admire works by Hilary Beattie featuring boats and coastal scenes.

The coastal town of Whitby in North Yorkshire inspired this work by Hilary Beattie.

Across the Gallery we find the stunning collages of Stephanie Redfern, inspired by the beauty and wonder of the natural world.

Who can resist a visit to our gorgeous little Minerva shop - cards, fabrics, quilting sundries, books and artworks by our talented exhibitors.

We hope to see you here - the show is on until 12 September 2015.
