Thrilled by Ceredigion Museum quilts

7 September 2011

Three of the trustees joined the Welsh Heritage Quilters for a trip to Ceredigion Museum in Aberystwyth on 7 September 2011. Museum staff had arranged a special "show and tell" of quilts from the collection, focussing on some beautiful Welsh quilts.

This is a Welsh flannel star patchwork quilt, with Welsh symbols such as spirals in the quilting.

The museum, formerly a theatre, provided the perfect backdrop for showing the quilts. This is a tailor's sample quilt.

This "cake stand" quilt is made of Welsh flannels and was inspired by an American magazine of patterns from about 1890.

This is a crazy quilt made of 349 pieces in 1894 by a woman from the Tregaron area.

We enjoyed the chance to get up close and study the quilts. Thanks to all at Ceredigion Museum for sharing their quilts and the stories which went with them!
