Warming Minerva

26 December 2009

Grant success

The Quilt Association, the charity which owns and manages the thriving Minerva Arts Centre in Llanidloes, has been awarded £4,500 under the “Can Do Communities” Award Scheme. This funding is made available under the Welsh Assembly Government’s “Community Facilities and Activities Programme” administered by Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations (PAVO). The scheme’s aim is to support local activity that has a demonstrable impact on community regeneration in Powys, through small scale capital investment.

The Quilt Association’s successful project is called “Warming Minerva”. The organisation plans to extend the central heating system in the Centre, which currently only serves Gallery 1 at the front of the building, into Gallery 2 at the rear. This will ensure that users of the Centre will enjoy a warm and comfortable environment in the future, particularly during the colder seasons of autumn, winter and early spring.

Plumbing work will commence in early February 2009, and the work will be complete later in the same month. The new heating system will greatly improve visitors’ enjoyment of this busy Arts Centre in Llanidloes, and The Quilt Association’s trustees look forward very much indeed to welcoming people to a Warmer Minerva.
