Minerva Quilts 12

9 July 2012 - 8 September 2012

Another exciting combination of antique and contemporary quilts.

Antique quilts from the collection of Pippa Moss will be on display. Pippa has a very detailed blog with more information about her quilts which can be viewed here.

Three separate galleries of work will make up the contemporary element of this year's exhibition.

Modern Movement is a Hungarian quilt group, and their exhibition is called "Layers".

Work by Mary Lloyd Jones

Mary was born in Devil's Bridge in Ceredigion and much of her work has been inspired by the landscape of that area. She was also inspired by the colourful abstract quality of her great grandmother's quilt to produce textile works, using folding, pleating, twisting, and ripping. She works on unstretched calico often stitched together in irregular shapes and experiments with dyes and stitches to create new ways of working.

Work by Jennifer Hollingdale

Jennifer says - "in this collection of work, Re-make, Re-use, I have tried to examine the old fashioned virtues of thrift and domestic economy. I take old materials with all their associations of long usage, often decayed or damaged, and reform them into something new with a contemporary reference. Included are household linens, bedding, wallpaper, sections of clothes, labels, packaging and sewing notions.
