Welsh Heritage Quilters - weekly meeting
6 January 2010 - 16 December 2017
The Welsh Heritage Quilters first gathered in 1995. Founded by just a handful of enthusiasts, there are now over 40 members. There is a wide range of experience and abilities amongst the members, from beginners to those with City and Guilds qualifications. Everyone is friendly and helpful and more than willing to share their knowledge and tips. If you are new to quilting, or an expert, you will find a warm welcome and make new friends.
WHQ meets every Wednesday afternoon in the Minerva Arts Centre in Llanidloes. Some weeks there are organised workshops or members will demonstrate a block or technique, on other weeks members work on their own projects over a natter and a cuppa. We have the facilities to stretch quilts too, and members help each other out to make sure that they can stitch without those wretched puckers on the back!
WHQ have a biennial exhibition in the Spring (the next one being in Spring 2016). Themes and challenges are set every two years to encourage the creativity, but members also display anything that they are proud of making.
WHQ also produce quilts for charities, for example - lap quilts for the local hospital, cot quilts for babies born in prison and quilts for the Linus project. In 2014 over 30 were donated. Members also helped embroider blocks for a quilt made to raise funds for the local Air Ambulance service.
We welcome visitors and new members. If you would like to drop in and have a chat or see what we are up to, the kettle will be on!
