North & Mid Wales Lacemakers and Wye Severn Textile Group

4 April 2015 - 19 April 2015

An exhibition of new work by the North and Mid Wales Lacemakers and Wye Severn Textile group.

The North and Mid Wales Lacemakers exhibition was set up in 1991 to showcase the work of lacemakers in the area.

There are several groups who meet and work both traditional and very contemporary lace. No-one ever saw their efforts. The exhibition takes place every three years and work is new for this exhibition. 2003 was the last  time Llanidloes hosted the exhibition, so 2015 seemed right to bring it back to this area.

Wye Severn Textile Artists was established in 2006. We are an evolving group of seven textile artists based in Powys. Meeting once a month, we encourage each other and develop ideas. Each member’s individual techniques and styles contribute greatly towards a diverse body of work for exhibition. In this way, we hope to demonstrate the inspirational and versatile qualities of textile art to a wider audience.

Artist Peter Watson will also be exhibiting

He says: "The inspiration for my current work is derived from the Yorkshire landscape and in particular the Yorkshire Wolds. I  am interested in the juxtaposition of modern farming methods on the natural terrain giving an ever changing variety of shapes, colours and patterns. This is an area of high intensity cultivation which produces beautiful almost abstract landscapes of vivid colours such as rape, poppies and linseed but also subtle variations of ochres and earth colours to be found in ripening wheat fields. I am also interested in some of the man made sea defences and the effects of erosion on the coast of East Yorkshire and remnants of concrete structures from Second World War defences.

I have also recently produced paintings based on the route of  “The Tour de France Grand Depart” which began in Yorkshire and I have based these pictures on some of the dramatic viewpoints encountered on Stage1 from Leeds to Harrogate which I hope encapsulate The Dales landscape."

Aberystwyth Printmakers are also exhibiting
